Sandvik Coromant Twin Tools

Is anyone here running Coromant twin tools, for multiaxis lathes?

 

I'm curious to see how you go about programming them. We've been experimenting with them here, but it seems a little cumbersome, and I keen to see how anyone else, if there is, are using them.

 

These tools have great potential, and the ability to use them easily, would be a great feature for the MATSS option that is forthcoming (I'm sure )

We use them and they work really well. I program them using a misc. value in the parmeters and modified my post for it. For example, If put a 1 value in integer 4, it posts a spindle index 180 deg and lock at the ref. return before the operation. Makes it really easy.

How do you define the tools/offsets? Do you have two tools defined with the same number, and different offset numbers?

Same tool , different offset. We usually use them for rough/finish. For example, I'll rough w/ T101, back away U2. W2., and then call T111 useing that misc value command for the finishing op.

The tool parameter page there is a tool offset angle this will rotate a Standard tool to use on the same spindle or on a sub spindle if you have a milling spindle to hold your lathe tool. If you are using a multi-tool I would probably go with a different tool call with the same number and then it should use a suffix or some way on the control to identify this if not then you need to use something the post from In-house has this built in and works like a champ. Your machine should have something to make this transition easy.
