Comp Above Part

I know there is a switch to make cutter comp activate above a part and turn of after clearing the part. I know that I read it somewhere on this forum but cannot find it.. Can someone point me in the right direction please..

In the lead-in/out windows just check the plunge after first move box and the retract before last move box. That should do the trick.

Thank you that worked just fine however know my tool #3 alarms out with a z over travel. It tries to send the tool + 15.0 (on a haas vf2 this is not gonna happen. It is a remachining toolpath set to the roughing tools Dia. Part is a 10 tooth gear remachining just the small dia at the bottom of each tooth. In between teeth MX wants the tool to go to this +15.0 mark ??? Why only this operation..

Have you looked at your retract value or maybe your clearance value. That might be this. Probably more the retract. look if your in incremental or in absolute in your operation.

In the control def, under cutter comp, is a switch to turn comp on and off above part. Never tried it though.

I've had that happen too. It wants to send the tool to Z10. which is not what the clearance or retract is set to. In fact here's some code for a retract for a part I am working on now. Clearance and retract are both set to Z1.

G00 X.9167 Z10. <-----------?????

I've seen this a few times but can't repeatedly reproduce it.

I can make it happen everytime if i change my comp from wear to control then the nice toolpath line showsup going 15.0 inches. But if I change comp back to wear it goes away. This is really screwing up my flow.

Why? Because Mcam chokes on it ?

 

I agree it's not the most elegant or straight forward way of doing things, but it does come in handy once in a while. It is also a perfectly valid way of turning cutter comp on and off (at least in a Fanuc control).

Good thing Mastercam and Fanuc thought of all the hacks when they were coding their products.
