SURFACE FINISH CONTOUR

HEAVY METAL

On a surface contour you might need to create some tool center boundries (inside and out so you can stay inside a "donut" and not cut the other side of the surface). Or you could create a surface to fill the "hole" on the side of the surface that you don't want to machine and use that as a check surface. Surface contours will always get any part of the surface that it can and carry that contour down to the specified final depth of the program.HTH

HEAVY METAL,

Wallace is correct. You may also want to provide some sort of limiting boundary so your toolpath won't loop around the surface. Edge Settings alone usually doesn't wrap the toolpath completely around the surface. Surface Contour toolpaths tend to do all sides of the selected surfaces unless the tool can't physically machine it from that plane (i.e. bottom of part from Top Tplane), or there is a boundary to prevent the tool from machining the other side. That's just the way the Contour toolpath works. Draw a 2-D shape around the surface and use it as a Tool Center Boundary, or create a second surface and use it as a Check Surface. Mr metal are you using more then one surface?

What version are you using 8.1.1 or V9.

I just did a quick one in V9 with a 5.deg taperd surface and worked great n boundry.

But I know in the past I have had that trouble and have used a boundry to fix it.

The surface Normal was totaly WRONG. smile.gif
