  1. i tend to agree that UG is bad for programmers. there is nothing "direct and to the point" about it and it takes longer to program even a simple part. (typical of anything the US governement has had it's hands in). actually getting a tool path done is pretty bad but their post processors really suk. with mastercam i can make the post ask me questions and accept input for coords for pallet offsets and that kind of stuff. i haven't been able to get ug posts to do that. any clues ? 've been programming for almost 30 years and ug is the worst i've seen, and the most expensive.
  2. well, it looks like my employer is about to switch to UG-NX ( a requriement of the major customer). dernit are there any discussion groups like thisone for UG-NX ?
  3. that's it form me guys. since i'm getting spammed from somewhere with trash and other non-sense, i'm dropping off this forum for fear of getting fired and getting the IT guys to disconnect my internet from off my machine. blah.
  4. www.emastercam is the only people that have my email addy at work that is on the web.

  7. i've not had good results with highfeed. i seem to loose some of the control over what happens when i use it.
  8. HAH . Lewis. i told ya so..... neener
  9. maybe ya'll should rename this forum, "TIPS AND TRICKS OF THE WIZARDS".
  10. maybe some of them are splines.
  11. are you sure he was just a wise-cracker or was he actually just really really frustrated ? i thought he was kind of rude but we all get that way sometimes, DON'T DENY IT. oops, that slipped. it's kind of like "cute girls"... "no matter how cute she is, someone somewhere is sick of her crap". of course i don't really know all the details. i did think, however, that he had a point about some people not sharing their experience. not on this forum but i have seen this in the shop and am quite guilty of that myself sometimes, in the shop. (it's a journeyman thing, or a blood-sweat-and tears thing). BUT i have never seen a lack of sharing on this forum. this forum is great. to bad the rest of the wurld don't wurk this way. urrrr
  12. my pref is to automatically DELETE-ALL-POINT-LINES-ARC-SPLINES and then CREATE-CURVE-ONE-EDGE to get what i want. that also eliminates the chance of grabbing the wrong spot sometimes. i dislike working with splines almost as bad as i dislkie working on the plumbing at my house.
  13. actually, i think, in some ways, he has a point. we, toolmakers don't teach very many people anything at all, especially in the last 15 or 20 years, since our employers started using as operators instead of toolmakers. some of us even feel like mushrooms.... "kept in the dark and fed s*#t".... but i don't think this forum fits his description.
  14. hey, usmen like to "get on the xxxx, too" sorry, i couldn't resist that one
  15. is there a reason you can't just use "open" pocket ?
  16. speaking of solids, is there a way to import a solid into 8.1.1 as surfaces ? sorry, i can't convince my employer that solids or V9 is needed. dangit.
  17. ummm, when i type in .079, i think, but could be wrong, the variable should say 079 . that is, we're strictly mm here and i have read in the manual that there is 3 place deciaml for metric. however, it always drops off the zero. therefore it says just 79 . any ideas ? what am i missing. it also displays 4 decimal places so if i put in 100 and hit return, i get 1000000. the kicker is, the .079 that shows up as just 79, actually moves .079. i am offsetting on palets from a G60 position(center of the palet) it looks wierd as heck but i works. i was just wondering why it seems to read different than it displays.
  18. urrr, sorry, i left something out.... how come i can't get any of the fs setups (ie fs 10 0 3t #Integer, three trailing zero after decimal (no decimal showing) show a zero in front. for instance, i can get .540 to show up in the nc files as 540, which is what i want. however, i can't get .097 to show up as 097 , it show up as just 97 any ideas ???

  20. any of you bosto guys know anything about the variable setup on these bosto machines ?
  21. chinese ? good gosh, did you know that them people are still trying to force people to stay in their country ?
  22. something like that. we normally add the work plane in there somewhere for reference only, they usually just hit return and the post puts in "WORK PLANE = 0". (there are 6 work planes on a cube, numbered 1 through 6). what i want it to do is stop processing and say "hey you, you forgot something, try again". or something like that. i can think of a few ugly names i could put in there also, but i won't, maybe.....
