milling stellite weld..........

Has anyone had any experience milling stellite weld?

I was wondering what tooling to use and what speeds and feeds.

yep, we're doing it right now. I've always used 30 to 40 sfm with carbide. I didn't write the program they are using right now so I'm not sure what they are running.

1/2" Tian coated 650 RPM 16 IPM

1/4 Uncoated 1000RPM 10 IPM

What is the Rockwell Number for that material?

i believe the rockwell is in the mid 40's.....

not 100% sure, I'll check on that and let you know.

Ocean, you really get away with 85 sfm? I have never been able to get that high.

Terry, all the time with a 2D contour set to Oscillate.

the weld is applied to 4140 material.

they are heat treated after the weld to 23-31 rc per print.

The parts we machine are 50-60 rc, very hard. They are alittle harder then a tap. The surface speeds and feed seemed alitte high for what we make. I go through a few inserts/endmills per part.

The part is an encoder wheel for oil well measuring equipment, if the wheel is not hardend it wares, and there is accumulated error on the encoder.
