Depends on how big a tool you need, but sandvik has developped a new line of cutters "R390" series that does a terrific job. We use them, and they work great.

Iscar and Ingersoll have an excellent programme of plunge mills (Center cutting avalable - Iscar: see pages C91-C93 of the July 2001 Inch Version of Iscar Unlimited) The Sandvik programme mentioned is a dirivative of the R215 program and is non-center cutting (see page 224-225 of LIT-SUP T/R02.1)

 

Word of Caution... Do not use a plunge roughing surface pocket routine with a rotary axis substitution as it will not work. It took me 45 minutes one day to train a sales goof that a "Radial" effect exists for this and the stepover amount would never be correct.
