Plunge outside of containment boundry

OK, I have a part that I am using surface rough pocket. I tried the high speed tool path and it creates a funky tool path so I dont want to use that. The surface rough pocket created great tool path but with one exception. There are several places that the tool needs to plunge (outside) of the boundry. I need it to plunge outside of the boundry and it does this just fine. The only thing that I dont like is that it plunges the full diameter of the tool away. Is there a way to change it to that it clears but not by an entire 1/2" ?

What exactly is it doing? I almost never use the old surface paths anymore. The HST works great IMHO.

You could either change your XY clearance settings or entry at point.

 

These are settings in the entry area, helix or ramp.

There is an entry point to select in the toolpath surface selection window.

My problem is, the entry point needs to jump around. IM facing material down around the part. IM not using helical or ramp entry but rather plunge outside containment boundry.

Trim will usually work for that. Trim the toolpath to a rectangle that is the radius of the end mill + a little larger per side.

Thanks Mike. I dont know why I didnt think of that in the first place. It would be nice if there was a way to regulate how much outside of the containment boundry the plunge is but I guess this works just fine.
