Ridges from a simple surface.

I am having trouble just getting my HAAS to cut a smooth surface. Everything looks great in verify but when I try to cut it I keep getting these ridges.

I have used 1:1, 2:1, 3:1 filtering with the same results. I am using smooth on the motion gap.

I am going to try it with direct and see what happens.

Do I need to add information in my explaination?

what is Total Tolerance?

I am using a .125 ball endmill so the corners are smaller.

what feedrate?

ball could have a flat on it.

are you cutting surface or revolved?

Try checking "one way filtering".

we had a problem once that was similar, and someone had messed with the control definition and it was set to all ways separate xy moves from z moves....not quite what you want with a 3 axis.

 

what is the stepover? I assume you willl say the stepover is much smaller than the actual ridge pattern, which means it could be some kind of geometry problem?

Try making the toolpath 'One way' - That will eliminate an error caused by backlash in the machine.

 

If it is now smooth, you need to fix the backlash in the machine.
