I don't really know what's possible. The situation I was referring to happened several years ago. All I know for sure is that the part was scrapped and that R was definitely the problem. The .015 was more of a guess (don't remember exactly)... But I am positive that it was more than "a couple thou"... Is it possible that the potential for error grows with the size of the arc ?

Yeah, .015 is a bit out of the IJK/R realm.

 

My guess would be it's in the mechanical drive system...
