Solid Edge to Mcam

Hello all,

My company just bought solid edge for our designing/drawing dept. My question to you guys is: If they save files that are solids, will I be able to read them in Mcam V8.1.1 even if I do not have the solids option? I just want to know, if we have to buy the solids option of Mcam, we will. We just don't want to spend money on something we do not need. confused.gifconfused.gifconfused.gif

Thank you,

If you deal with solids all the time from your engineering dept. it's a no brainer to go with solids in Mastercam, especially if you do a lot of 3d surfacing. No dealing with gaps between surfaces and when you import solid files it will automaticaly create lines and arcs around the model. You can also create surfaces from the solid if you need to.

Hope everybody has a killer weekend!!!!!

In Mastercam Version 8 you can read in the NATIVE Solid Edge file, no need to translatr/transfer to surfaces. If you do not have the solids option, you will get NURBS Surfaces. If you have the Solids Option you have the choice to either bring in Solids Or Surfaces.

If you don't have Solids, there was a topic recently regarding weather Solids was worthwhile or not. Some good opinions and good facts.

Hi,

I use V8.11 Level 3 with solid and 90% of what I machine is from SolidWorks' part files(It's parasolid based as Solid Edge) . And since in V8.x and lower you can not have check/drive surface simultaneuosly in a solid entity, I import them as surface. Remember in V9 you CAN HAVE check/drive surface together in a solid object.

Hope it helps.
