Ram/Sinker EDM

Our company is thinking about purchasing one of these machines with 4th axis, thread cutting, ETC... capabilities. Does anyone have suggestions for a particular brand. We want the best bang for the buck.

A Ram?

We have 2 EX8 Mits Ram sinkers, I never knew you could get a RAM with thread cutting capabilities.

We can burn threads, or are you talking a wire edm?

My suggestion would be to set up some testing parameters that simulate what your company is planing on using the machine for such as surface finish, material use etc., then let the different companies have add it, let them make some test burns (watch out they like to sell on things u might not need, such as a mirror finish). I have personally always like Charmilles for sinker brand, somewhat like Mercedes category, well at least use to be. I have never worked on Mitsubish1 sinkers but have heard good about them.

I would look at a used one from an auction as they go really cheap because of decline of the mold industry. If they are too old they may not be supported as well. May have to call factory on particular models or buy a second one for parts. Some models are still totally supported.

We have a elox with 3r tooling system. We are able to burn threads using the rot. head. But beleive me it is not fun. I would look for a good used one.Unless you have a lot of work for it.

Stay away from elox.
