Machine Simulation VX3

It takes a little getting used to, but the functionality for the *most* part is the same. New icons, menus/interface customization options. I didn't like it at first but now I love it.

it can be a bit challenging to set up if your machine isn't already configured. you shouldn't need solids for it,

however if you're making your own machine you will need a way to create STL files, or manipulate a solid model of a machine to have it in the correct orientation

I have been using Machsim for a bit now, and it's pretty decent. I ended up having to draw the machine in MC, saving each axis, and piece and setting up our machine in it. It was a pain but it's nice to have some kind of collision protection. It works well for holder hitting chuck, etc. I got ahold of a programmer at Camaix when x3 first came out and he sent me a beta that had problems, but it looks like this one is a lot better.

I put the support file from mastercam that I got from Karlo on the FTP under Chooks, labeled machine simulation_old.doc it is kind of complicated and it's actually a pretty good walkthrough. It's the version for x2 but most of the principles are still valid.
