Slow creating bounding box?

Are there settings or anything I can change that would make my bounding box creation faster? Since the installation of X3 MU1, and only on some parts, it can take up to 30 minutes to create a bounding box.(something so simple should not take this long) I never had this issue with X2. Mastercam doesn't lock up either, it just sits their thinking. I can even press esc and it will exit out of it. I don't believe its the part, I can open the same part model on the other "slower" computers in the shop, doing the same thing and it pops up instantly.

Any Ideas?

I've messed with my tolerances and made them the same as the other computers, even made them 'huge' and I didn't notice any difference.

Is this a video card issue?

NVidia Quadro FX3500 with latest Solidworks driver. The other computers have FX1400's

Thanks!

I have the same issue and haven't figured it out either. Like you said random. I did the same thing opened it on another computor (same computor as mine) and it worked fine. Ive tried doing a repair and no luck.

Interesting I have the FX 3500 here too. So does the computor it works on so I dont know. confused.gif

Are you importing Solidworks files or something else? The most recent part I had this happen on was a Cimitron created part, imported into Solidworks 2009 and then imported it into Mastercam. I just went back into Solidworks and saved it as a Parasolid and imported it into Mastercam and the bounding box creation was considerably faster but it still lagged from the other computers. I guess thats what I'm going to have to do from now on until this issue gets resolved...or until X4 is released... frown.gif

Ok the two computers in the office who do the converting have a solids license. They do not have any issue. They import a parasolid then save a X3 file as a solid. I grab the X3 file off their computer move to mine,no solids license, create surfaces and delete the solid. Now the sometimes Bounding Box creation is really slow. So I closed Mastercam on one of the office computers. Opened with the solids license on my computer and the Bounding Box worked fine. Went back to without the solids license and creation went back to being really slow. Hope this makes a little sense.

So Robert I am wondering if you have solids active when it happens to you?

So your saying its slow when you don't have the solidworks license? Now that you mention it that may be whats happening here also. We have 8 licenses and sometimes they are all used by others. I'll do some investigating and get back to you.

Thanks

Mark,

"...create surfaces and delete the solid. Now the sometimes Bounding Box creation is really slow..."

So it's only slow when dealing with surfaces?

Maybe you already know this, but you can use solids in your part even if you don't have a license on a particular computer. You just can't modify them or make new ones.

Hi Pete, I just tried it on the solid and its still real slow . As soon as i grab a solids license its fine on both solids and surfaces. To expand a little the guys in the office can draw a part in solids and as soon as i get it,again no solids here, Its slow. Its strange.
