Simplify

I have tried using simplify to convert a spline to arcs and lines and I have never gotten it to work. Any one got any sugestions?

The Break/Many pieces command can also be a help withyour spline.

You have a choice between breaking into lines

or arcs and an entry field to set a number of breaks or a resolution of the results.

Read the Help stuff on this function as you can get wildly different results depending on how you use it..

Try increasing your tolerance when you use simplify. It is set to .0002 by default. Normally increasing it to .001 is enough to get it to work. The field to change the tolerance will be on your toolbar once you select edit/simplify.

Also try squashing the entities to a common "z".

Note:

"Simplify" will convert a spline that is circular into an arc/circle and it will convert a spline that looks like a simple straight line into a line. It will not convert a spline with linear and arc sections into multiple lines and arcs. That's what "Break/Many" will do.

I have never been able to get a spline to break into lines AND arks. Any insight on what settings to use to get it to work would be greatly appreciated.

Edit/Break/Many can break a spline into lines and arcs (there's a pair of buttons on the ribbon bar that let you choose 'curves' or 'lines').

It doesn't, though, attempt to join the arcs if they share a center and radius, though running Edit/Join afterward will do that.

thanks Pete, but I always get lines. Never an arc.

 

I just did one two days ago. It was a rectangle with 1" fillets on each corner. I tried to break many but all I got was lines no matter what button I tried.

 

What settings would you use for this?
