5 Axis Curve not cuttting the whole contour

I am trimming a part and I have a 5 axis curve toolpath.

 

I have a single spline for the curve and 2 surfs for tool axis it cuts all around except for one side

what is wrong that is causing this ??

I can't tell just looking at the pic, other than to look for a break in the spline, which I'm guessing you've already done. I would be glad to take a look if you haven't solved it yet.

it selects all as one... can it do that if it is not one piece ??

 

I have to share the Hasp with another programer when I get it back I can look again to see if there is a break.... I think that there is not

By chance, did you move the start point of the tool path? If the spline is not closed, when you selected the spline, it would still pick up the whole spline if it was otherwise in one piece. Then, if you moved the start point of the tool path, it would only cut from the new start point to the break.

Try turning off infinite look ahead and set your look ahead value to 100...

Yes I tried moving the start point to the middle of the section it will not cut.. No change.

when I do a chain analysis it comes back one spline 62.3373 inches long

 

sounds right.... is there any other way to check for gaps ??

Create endpoints on the spline then analyze the distance between the points.

 

I have had this problem before and could never figure out why it was happening. If the curve is on the surface try switching project from plane to normal or vice versa.

Just break your spline somewhere (using trim/break at point). rechain, done. Worked just fine for me.

I tried to send it, but now my mail isn't working. I did similar to Fred, but I broke the spline into 2 pieces, then had to convert the problem area into lines using "break many" to get it to work for me.

I have been working on it and got one toolpath to work and mirrored the geometry for the other side and MC has been crashing.

 

I opened up the file I posted on the FTP and tried the break at point. And MC crashed again

 

WTF !!!

 

Where did you guys break the Spline ??

I broke them at the point where the 2 surfaces meet. Yeah, MC crashed a couple times on me while doing it. Was this file originally created in an earlier version of MC? I've seen some crashes on my files brought in from earlier versions

Nope geometry created in SW2009 imported into MC

 

 

SLDPRT to MC If I remember correctly.

 

Solid body then I created surfs from solid faces.

I got the one side to work and have made some extensive trim changes. now I am trying to get the geometry mirrored to get the other side to work.

 

I mirrored the Spline chain but MC crashes when processing ... so I am going to mirror the axis control surfaces and see what happens.

you may have already figured this out, but it looks like your start and end of your spline are mismatched by .0004. found that out by what MLS said with endpoints.

Check your chaining tolerance too.
