Lolipop cutter

I'm having trouble using a lolipop cutter. I did a search but the last examples were in 2003 using V9. Are there any different methods in X2MR2?

I just finished a job that had several lollipop cutters in use

Hello John, I am doing a medical device package mold that has three "clinchers" to snap the part in place. I can possibly email you a simplified version of the mold file. I'm just not sur if it is something to program off the solid, or use flowline type toolpaths.

See if that is what you're looking to do?

I use a lot of lolipop cutters. I have the best luck with surface rough contour. I set the gap settings to retract if stepover is greater than 100% of tool diameter to get it to work correctly.

rsbeadle - your suggestion is very similar to john's. He chose the surface finish contour method.

Surface Finish Contour and Flowline are the only toolpaths capable of undercutting (unless you get fancy and use a different Cplane and Tplane).

Along the lines of what Colin said...

 

I tried doing an undercut with HST Waterline the other day. It wouldn't go past 90 deg. Is this a toolpath limitation, or did I miss a setting?

The ONLY paths that will do an undercut is Surface Finish Contour and Flowline.

 

Other than that you'll need to get fancy using planes to make the undercut not LOOK like and undercut

check out the directions tab on the parameters page if I remember. I think there is a pulldown in there where you can do vectors or even pick a point.
