X4 contour ramp malfunction

I can no longer set the ramp to depth and have the tool ramping around the contour until it reaches the depth I have input. It just continues to ramp around the contour until it is at the final depth. This breaks the tool every time. It should ramp around until it reaches the specified depth and finish around the contour before ramping down further??? Is this broke or was it changed for some reason? cuckoo.gif

It works the way it has always worked here. It never (since V9) ramped per level, it always ramped to the final depth then if you have it set it will take a complete pass at the final depth. When ramping set the depth to your depth of cut, this will set it to take that depth per revelution around your contoure and you will not overload your cutter.

Are you ramping an open contour? I had this problem in the past where I set my ramp to say .010" with a 3/32" end mill. On an open contour it will take a .010" DOC from point A to point B. Then take another .010" from point B to point A (resulting in a .020" DOC at point A and breaking my cutter). If you are doing an open contour make sure you have the "One way ramping for open contours" checked. This way it will take a flat cut back to point A.

Make sense?
