When i get a model in autocad inventor

witch is rare . I select on a boss and it

selects the hole part . How do I just select

the boss .

It's probably because it's a solid so it selects the whole thing. When your creating a 3D tool path you need to use "activate solid selection" button when it prompts you to select geometry. It's a blue box with a green check on it, it's above the ribbon bar. Also you'll need to de-select "select body" button that becomes active after you click "activate solid selection" button. It's a pink cube, it should be near the "activate solid selection" button.

A couple things you can do. When you are opening the IPT or IAM click on the "Options" button before you click the check. Open it as a solid, but also have it apply Edge Curves as it opens the model.

 

Beyond that, if you need surfaces, apply them after you have opened the model. This method will give you the cleanest geometry to work with.
