STL Verify

Is there any way to get around this? I have a part that consists of trimed/untrimed surfaces and I create a an STL file from the part before any operations or changes are made. This way I'll have the part to Verify against to check my tolerances after my toolpaths and so i can jump between Ops. with out waiting for previous Ops. to be cut.When I try to assign the STL file to Verify it tells me that the part consists of polygons and Verify can not create a water tight part and will recreate the surfaces with a waterfall effect.

I think an stl has to be a solid, no holes, everything trimmed. Can you trim everthing and make it water tight without much trouble?

Not on this one. I've tried to use a solid part with the same results.

Are you starting from a solid block that you could save off stls as you go though verify.

 

It's hard to say without see what you are working on.

Yes I can save stls as I go through verify but that wont help me when I have a finished part... I still wont have a base to compare it to.

I know an stl is a bunch of triangles. You say even as a solid it does the same thing? I would think that would work.

Shoot me an email. If you can email me the STL file you are trying to use for the comparison, I may be able to clean it up in Magics RP when I get home.

I believe that the engineer needs to go back and trim some stuff up because even as a solid it has many untrimed surfaces. From what I've seen in the past this my be why its not "water Tight"

Have you tried using the STLHeal C-Hook or the STL2surf c-hook ? Alt-C and pick the one u want. HTH

I would go with that. It should be water tight if it is drawn right. Is it reverse engineered like from a point cloud or scan data?
