bar pulling preferences

Hi All,

This isn't really a Mastercam question. I wanted to find out what the general consensus is in respect to bar pulling. I can think of two options. I noticed that in the Misc. Ops toolpaths, there is a stock advance option. Do people use this? The other option I can think of is writing a text file with all the collet open/close info in it, and inserting that with a manual entry.

So what is everyone's preferences? Using the stock advance toolpath, or a text file and manual entry? Or is there a better procedure that I'm not thinking of?

I wrote the Bar Puller logic into the Stock Advance section in my posts. It was a little tricky for the Mazak because we use the sub-spindle (B Axis) to advance.

For the Hardinge Lathes (Fanuc 16T) it was simple, M codes for the Chuck Clamp/Upclamp and the Advance Length in MC is processed. I did find that when I used different tool numbers for the Puller it posts 2 tool changes. I used to have the tool number hard coded (T1212) but quickly fixed it. Be careful how you write the sequence and pay attention to the output... one wrong clamp/unclamp and you could pop the puller.

I wrote a barpull routine in the post that uses the cutoff operations' misc reals and integers.

After cutoff the routine starts.

Misc Integer 9 Barpull? yes 1 no 0______X

Misc Integer 10 Tool #____________XXXX

Misc Real 9 Grab at abs Z=________-Z.ZZZ

Misc Real 10 Pull Distance inc. Z=____Z.ZZZ
