haas 5ax positioning

hello all.....if any of you are running trunions on a haas, have you ever seen a 178 alarm. the definition of it says - divide by zero.

 

what does that mean? the service guys were at my customers, could not figure the alarm out so NATURALLY it is the softwares fault, even though when the actual code is verified, all is well. if you run the code thru the control in "graphics" mode, you do not get the alarm. only until you cycle the machine, the alarm comes up.

 

the op is a contour ramp with .001 depth set. the holes being bored are .110 in diameter and the EM is .107. there is no wear comp set at machine.

 

any ideas?

is there something trying to reposition the trunion during or before the cut.

 

any plane call out in the line or before.

nope...pretty standard stuff with "safe index" enabled. meaning, head stays home, rotation and table move, then tool approaches the part. nothing but positioning moves.

We have several HASS verticals here, and they will sometime not run standard code, usually some hiccup in a contour, or a drill cycle, code that runs just fine on any other machine tool. I'd dig in and find the exact line or lines where you are getting the alarm and start from there.

tried that....thats part of the problem. if you run the program thru the simulated graphics on the control, you get no alarm. you only get the alarm once you actually press the cycle start button and the alarm pops up right at the very beginning of the program.

i already suggested that to the customer. with the current set up, the machine should run fine. tool has plenty of clearance.

 

i have bored .252 holes on a haas trunion before with a .250 EM, so i know the control can handle it using the same toolpath this particular customer is using.

Sometimes you just have to use a smaller tool

I don't know if it was the same error but we've seen similar when we've had and R plane above the current tool position or similar situation. Sorry I can't remember exactly what it was but you might look for a bad R plane or Q value.

Sounds like on of those annoying anamolies. Maybe power down the machine, or lead in/lead out moves? Let us know when you figure it out.

rebooted machine 3 times, then it worked.....go figure.

Also sometimes the post will not spit out a G17 at the end of the program. If you are ramping in using G18 or G19 it will alarm at the beginning if you don't cancel it.

not the case. all of our posts are dead-nuts. this was a pure haas error.

Haas machines can sometimes be just a real P.I.A. and other times people can have them run trouble free for years. I am sorry to say I have always been on the front edge of that having the ones at different shops that always had problems.

Trevor we are 5 hours ahead of you in California and this morning the kids are still asleep along with the wife so now I am just looking around for something to keep me busy till everyone wakes up. Besides I am the most relaxed I have been in along time trust me it feels good with this tropical breeze blowing sitting in a hammock. I know this is an old thread, but I had the same alarm 178. Mine turned out to be I needed to break the arcs at 180°.
