surface calculation and task manager

Right now I have a surface that's been calculating for over an hour which seems overly long. I need a 10 finish so I'm running a best smoothing on a spiral finish flowline. In the task manager if I'm not on the session window it's showing "Not responding" and 50% load. When I activate the session I get a "running" for about 10 seconds and then "not responding" again. If I leave it alone it stays at not responding but if I toggle the task manager it repeats the running and then not responding action.

 

Is the process still calculating or is it dead?

It should be calculating. I left one 'not responding',

went out for lunch, got back, it finished.

 

It may be like a maxed out buffer/memory thing

from software to hard ware?

If I don't use the smoothing it's about a 15/20 minute calc. I'm into this now around 1 1/2 hours.

That 'seems' too long.

 

Multithreading? check multi thread manager

it will at least tell you how long to go.

 

If its multithreading you can at least work done

while your waiting or stop it if you don't see

any progress in the manager

I don't think there is multithreading with the finish flowline paths. I'm working on another part thru another session so I'm not staring at the screen. It just seems too long but I'm not very familiar with the smoothing.

I think multi threading when enabled is for all paths

multithreading is currently the HST paths only.

The HST paths are the ones supplied by PTC/NC Graphics I think?

Is multithreading just for those?

Well, I gave up at around 11:00 yesterday which was approx 2 1/2" hours crunching. I just hit Escape and it showed the toolpath failed message just like it was crunching like normal. If this is the case then smoothing is worthless to me.
