Implementing Vericut/Tool Crib

The shop here is fairly new to using a tool crib and presetting tools. I am wondering how others are operating. The next step here is to implement Vericut. I am thinking the programming would use Vericut to verify the toolpath and then the toolcrib would verify again when tools lengths and work offsets are set.

Any input is appreciated.

1 You need to have a data base of tools/holders you have in tool crib.

2 Create a a STD library of all what you have in Vericut , properly naming them.

3 After your Mastercam is over, post it, create a Vericut Project for that job.

4 Use your vericut library tools, pick tools etc, assemble them with the combinations that work ( for eg holder+shank+tip), process vericut , when happy , print the report from your .tls file.

5 The report file can be customized for the desired output you want to sent to tool crib.

6.Toolcrib should follow the combinations /lengths given in the printed report and do the tool setups.

If you really want to do it right, get the TDM interface from Walter.

This gives you one "Live" crib. When a tool list is presented to Vericut, it builds your tools on-the-fly and loads them into Vericut's memory.

This way you are driving your programming (Mastercam) and your verification from your active tool library.

This is really awesome if you like to setup certain tools and always have them available (or have multiple sets of the same tool).

If your shop sets up each batch of tools for a given job, then breaks them back down, then it might work better to use Vericut to check and configure your tools/holders, then print the list and give it to the setup guy as others have suggested.
