so i need to drill about 1000 .020 dia. holes through some 316 S.S tubing. Wall thickness is .025 and i need to go through the wall. Anyone got any ideas of feeds and speeds??? would love to get all the holes done in just one drill but not sure that will happen.

Thanks in advance folks.

Buck,

I had a similar job a few years back 316 s.s. with .019 holes thru .030 thick material. Each part had 50 holes. I used a Guhring 660 tin coated drill drill h.s.s. size was .490MM. I spotted with a 4mm x 90 titex h.s.s. uncoated spot drill. Ran 8000 rpm with 3.3 ipm feed. I was changing drills at 800 holes. Drill as well as spotter were running absolutely true. I also was running oil in the machine at the time not coolant. With coolant no dought the results would be different but the Guhring drill way out performed any other that I tried. HTH

drills i got here (left overs from another job) are Sphinx .52 mm carbide. Think thay came from SPI. Anyway will give them a go since they already here.

guess i will start at 8000 rpm and 3 IPM see how that goes.

Just been told that "as little as possible inside burr please" lol see how that goes lol
