Gorilla Mills for Aluminum

Has anyone had a any experience with their variable flute, variable index Silver Back end mills for aluminum? We have been using Dataflute but I'm interested in seeing what is currently a better performer. Thanks in advance.

1/2" 9932rpm / 89.4i pm / .0030 FPT? Thats pretty light for a so called "high performance endmill". We run 1/2" 3 flute helicals at .006-.007 FPT slotting 1x dia deep.

 

Helical is the best value for the tool IMHO we have tested all the rest. And while the others work great also the helicals are way cheaper.

I was thinking .003 feed was light also. It sounded like the variable flute/variable index concept would prevent chatter and allow increased feed. When I did a search on the forum I did not find any comments on this particular brand. I appreciate the feedback everyone.

helical makes a variable flute also.

A member over at Practical Machinist tested them out on his Haas with 20 Haaspower, and the Gorilla tool did great.

Did you compare them to The Viper from Destiny Tool? Maybe I could save some money.

I just saw the vipers and we are going to do another test very soon, I want to test the destiny, benchmark, helical, niagra, and ma ford. I know there are some more out there but the high priced cutter don't seem that much better for AL.

I know most of you guys are stateside and they may be unobtainable for you, but we run WNT variable fluters on AL with good results (I'm UK BTW)

Specv, I have info coming on Helical's new H40ALV-3 line. We are not really close to any large population centers but our regular tool supplier reps Helical so we will see what happens. Thanks Again for the heads up.

We prefer the heilcals to the benchmarks but we haven't tested in a while.
