Hole axis help

I'm having some issues using Verisurf hole axis on a cylinder. When it outputs the point and axis, it doesn't always put the point at the top of the hole and it doesn't seem like there is any specific reasoning as to where it goes. Am I missing something or is there at least a way to project them to a diameter so that when I use drill 5 axis I don't get varying depths? Thanks for your help!

The tool is designed to use the middle of the cylinder from the upper most to the lowest most bottom then put a point in the center. You can easily create a point at that point of the intersection of the surface if you un-trim the surface and then project the points to the surface using normal then they will be right at the intersection of the surfaces.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had an interesting problem with Pierce Point

a couple of weeks ago.

We had a model of an Orion space craft component.

It had a hole pattern around the periphery and I used Hole Axis to create hole vectors.

Then I created a surface from the solid, untrimmed it and used Pierce Point to put points on the surface coincident to the vector lines..

I got nothing.. no warnings no points no nothing.

The problem ??

The spacecraft is a big round surface, the untrimmed surface was a small segement of the circle.

I tried Unblank and still only had a small segemnt of the circle, but Pierce Point was looking at the whole surface even though it

was not present in the model, blanked or unblanked.

There were 2 solutions to each line so Pierce Point did nothing.

I got my Pierce Points by using Fill Holes

on the untrimmed surface. In theory, there were still 2 solutions, but that worked.
