HAAS VR-8 post

We just got a new Haas VR-8. The head rotates so I believe this is a head/head type machine. We have a Haas trunion post that has been working pretty well. Can this be made to work or should I start with some other post that was included on our CD's? I have emailed our MC dealer for a post but got no reply.

As far as I know there is many things that those machines can't do without getting a new post. I think that because the head move you can't use normal canned cycles at angles. So yea it would need to be custom made to the machine.

I'd like to hear how you end up programing it. Whether you comp the tool length at the machine or in mastercam and your basic format. We picked up an old VB-1 and think we have it figured out some what, but are still tooling up for the rotor blades we're going cut and haven't run it much.

if i remember correctly; vr's use G43 point something.

they also have a vector jog function. nice if you load-up a drill in a deep angled hole and need to jog out.

Ours (VB-1) has the vector jog I think, but to read the length offset it uses G143, which doesn't allow G41/42 cutter comp.
