Partoff D2 @ 62 HRC

We've cut mat. that hard before with carbide, but it was a lot of trial and error. 40-100 SFM with .002/.004 ipr. Like Odell said need to keep it cool. All we use for parting off is either Iscars DGN inserts or Kennametals NGD inserts if they'll reach. Ceramics will work, but the smallest I've seen is 3/16" wide, which is a lot of wasted material. Or quote dept (all former machinists). is pretty good at knowing what tools are required and adding extra stock if needed.

I saw this thread when it was first started and thought, Oh $h!t. Then I saw this: "i also got to drill it 3/16 thru with an 1/8 cross hole..."

IMO, it's time to bail out and start from scratch.

Depending on the finish requirements/tolerance, you could do a few of these parts slightly under size, in the soft, and let HT growth size them for you.

Good Idea

i try to cut one part and the entire partoff blade fail a 100SFM and .005 IPR

I was not trying to be negitive but I really did not see how this was ever going to work. 1-5 parts, well maybe, 1000 eek.gif no way.

I am glad you got your point thru to your management.

We turn regullarly D2@ 60 HRC.

We Rough > HT > Finish

We take Sandvik 7015 CBN.

Sometimes 62 HRC.

Between 50 to 58 HRC is not big difference but between 58 to 60 HRC is very big the difference.

Doing finish cuts is a BIG difference from trying to make a part complete from a thru hard blank.
