thanks Keith but I figured it out. There was a .0005 gap when I zoomed real close. funny thing though I analyzed them both and the z value was correct and the endpoints were the same...IDK, I just understand why the contour worked and not the pocket .

Because the contour started and stopped at the break point. a contour doesn't need a closed boundary, a pocket does.

 

 

The pocket could not chain complete, thus it failed.

 

Sometimes your chaining tolerance can be loosened a bit to complete small gaps like that but it is always best to fix the problem.
