Machinist needed - Ft. Lauderdale

The company I work for is looking for an experienced machinist to work on small parts. The location is near Ft. Lauderdale Florida. Trouble is, I'm in Ontario, Canada and I haven't got a clue what the talent pool is like down south but I'm doing some of the interviewing. I'm a machinist with almost 20 years experiece and I do the same job up here so I know what it entails. We seem to be struggling to find qualified applicants. Can anyone chime in as to how the economy is in southern Florida and what the talent pool is like. Also, if you're interested I can send/post some more details of the job.

Thanks in advance for any help.

well my shop is 10 min north of ft Lauderdale. The pool is very little. not very many here that i would really consider great machinist. a lot of people say they are but really are operators at best. not very many machinist jobs open here. Technology is behind the times in most places. When i have to hire it takes a while before i find someone that i can take and mold into something that can be good. Then they will leave for a fake promise of better benefits or money. if you like you can email me directly [email protected] if you want more information. if you can please email me details of the job. ill see if i may know someone to refer for you.

Good luck.

I just moved back to the upper midwest from Florida. 1 Master is correct, not much to choose from. There is not alot of cnc shops there so not alot of talented people. What jobs are there do not pay well. There used to be some Mold shops near Tampa but China does that cheaper now as well. Good Luck!

It took us 6 months to find a moldmaker/toolmaker but we finally did. e interviewed guys from the midwest but fortunately found someone local. There is talent down here...just most of them are working in good companies already and you're not going to "unseat" them very easily, especially the more advanced help. We got lucky. Now on the lower side of the scale, I have to agree with what some of the others said. There's not alot of shops around like there use to be. Use alot more mold shops. Gone. Now alot of smaller shops are struggling. A lot of guys moved north to the Carolinas too. Good luck, and if I hear of anyone looking, I'll let you know.
