In X3, X4 and X5 (shhhhh!) when you go to edit a Machine Def. you get the VERY annoying box that says 'Your Mastercam file has changed' Save?' Even tho its a new file with the default machine loaded right into it...

 

There is a checkbox somewhere to turn that off. Anyone recall where that is?

It's in the same box that's asking you if you want to save but I believe that only turns it off for that file. When you start a new file you will have to check it again.

I was wrong, I was thinking of the first window that pops up giving you a Machine definition file warning not the save file window.

I believe there was an issue early on where Mastercam would crash after editing the machine def, loosing you file that you were working on. They put that in to save you by saving your file

 

I have not had a crash after exiting the machine def for a few years at least, but the prompt is still there.

When you edit a machine definition Mastercam needs to load it into the current database so it asks if you want to save the current MCX data off first. The machine definition allows for geometry to be part of the machine def and when editing a MD it would need to load the geometry as well which is why the MCX needs to be saved first. Currently the machine being edited isn't opened so it doesn't know if there is actual geometry to load or not when the machine is loaded for edit.

 

I don't remember being able to turns this off Randy, but I will check into it for you.

It may have been as far back as X2, Jim...but that already seems like so long ago I cannot be sure. But I would appreciate you looking into it for me.
