ProE to MasterCAM

Hello,

 

I am new to MasterCAM.

Can I import a ProE file into MasterCAM?

If yes,

- how do I do that?

- Does it import the feature history or does it import just as a dumb solid?

Mastercam is not a parametric software so you will not get the model tree inheirant to Pro Engineer. You can export files in almost any generic file format available (iges, parasolid, step, etc.)

 

But to answer your question... yes it's a "dumb solid"

The Pro-E translator is an add-on. you must purchase this translator to open native files.

 

You can save your files out of Pro-E in other formats, I know IGES, I believe step and parasolid as well. If you need to get an output file instead I would always opt for the parasolid first, the step second and the iges only as a last resort.

IMO step will give you the best results from ProE to Mastercam. When importing assemblies of native ProE and parasolids they can loose their assembly positioning. Step assemblies from ProE always come in in the correct position.

I never had the translator to open native Pro-E files. I always had my customers send me step files. This always worked well for me for the past few years. I tried iges a few times but it seems like more work for some reason.

All we use at work is pro-e so i do have a translator but in the past trying to open step files i have encountered missing walls and features where you can see right through the part. Not sure on the cost of translator but for our shop its worth every penny.

Wow this thread is a little old! I've never really had problems importing step files. I usually select the import option for mastercam to attempt to heal the solid and they come through great 99.5% of the time. I've sometimes run into these issues with CATIA files though.

I have had a few issues with Step files just had one for one of my customers even after fixing it in Spacecalim . but if I brought the same file as a Parasolid came in great and of course the SC file came in clean to.
