  1. Like others have said the drivers from solidworks are actually the ATI drivers. You can download them at no charge from the ATI website or the Solidworks website. You may have to try a few different driver versions to see which one works better. I have found that ATI drivers can be tricky to get installed properly. I have used a free tool called Driver Sweeper to help clean out old ATI drivers in the past. Just google it to find the download. Drivers for Nvidia cards seem to install much more easily. Anyway, here is the link to solidworks. Solidworks driver reccomendations
  2. quote: I always keep the "master" in SW with a coordinate system set up so it lands in Mastercam perfectly. I haven't used Solidworks since 2006, and am just getting back into it now. Can someone post a screen shot of this "coordinate system" function from Solidworks?
  3. HUGE waste of time and effort. Was quoting stuff for 6 months and never got a job from it. Then one day I decided to quote a job and calculated at $25 per hour. We got that job and proved to the boss the service was worthless.
  4. All 3 of those problems sound like they might be video related. Have you played with hardware accleration and different video drivers to see if it makes a difference?
  5. After reading the help file it seems clear to me that the propogate button only works for level, color, line style, and line thickness. quote: Propagate Applies attribute changes to all selected entities. (This button is only available when multiple entities are selected or when attributes are changed.)
  6. You are right, the graphics card doesn't effect toolpath processing as much as the CPU and its L2 or L3 cache. I just looked at your first thread again. IMO the FX Quadro 580 probably won't do any better than your current 8800GT. We are running both those cards in our office with similar performance. If it were mine, I would skip the new video card for a while and see how it does. You can always change out the video card any time.
  7. Thoob, I think the specs you have listed will be more than fine for 2D work, and good for light to moderate use in 3D work (JMO). Those specs won't be too hard your wallet either. What you have listed is pretty much what I would build for myself today if were in need of a new computer. If you will be programming mostly 3D molds all day long, every day, you might want to talk the company into stepping up to an FX 3700 Quadro or higher card ($850.ish from Newegg).
  8. I was told the translators are in development and will probably be ready about the same time as X4MU1.............. No they did not give a date.
  9. Click on help while in mastercam and read up on "change recongnition" and "Tracking". I think there is also a short video embedded in that help file.
  10. I've had the exact opposite experience. I ordered from Tiger twice when I fist started buliding. Both times parts were broken or DOA. You could see the package had been openend previously. Been with Newegg for my last 20 orders and never got a broken or DOA part.
  11. Is it maybe a nvidia 7600GT, or GS card? As a test, go to settings/configuration/verify interface/verify settings, and set a check mark for disable hardware acceleration. See if that makes an improvement. This disables acceleration only during verify. Another thing to try is downloading the latest drivers from nvidia.com if that Dell will allow it.
  12. Verify in X4 for transformed lathe ops is a disaster. My verify shows all cuts being done with the same tool. It also shows multiple collisions that are not really there. Backplot is a little better, but not good enough in my opinion. BUT, the gcode comes out correctly for me. Backplot and veirfy for transformed lathe ops was a little better in X3/MU1. Anyone else notice this?
  13. quote: u should run offset in centre not at tip Yes, this method does work when using the 2D countour tool path. You will just have to offset your geometry.
  14. If you are using a "2D contour" tool path, and selecting a 3D chain, it will make the cut but it will not compensate properly. To get it to comp properly you will have to use one of the "3D surface" tool paths.
  15. Sometimes the mcamx/common/temp folder can get quite large. We might need more detail. Is it slow on all files? Even a simple one? Is it slow right away when you start a new file, or is it only after you have been working with the file for a while? Try the cc cleaner program. I have 9 class room computers and after a few months, they are so loaded up with student practice files and other temp files, that Mastercam sometimes slows to a crawl.
  16. Shut down Mastercam. go into windows explorer and navigate to the mcamx/common/temp folder. If there are any files in there you should delete them. This is where mastercam stores some files during a crash. If Mastercam is not running, this folder should be empty.
  17. File merge brings in only geometry. Even when I merge in a file with a different MD that has toolpath, only geometry will come in. So it shouldn't matter if they have different machine defs. Why would it need a password? (Just thinking out loud here).
  18. File merge in X4 works fine here.
  19. First step is to clean out all of your temporary files. I use cc cleaner (a free download). If that doesn't help there are some Mastercam things we can look at also.
  20. Do a search. The cut and paste problem is a known issue. It has been talked about many times in the past. Use the right click, hold, drag, and release method to avoid the problem you mentioned.
  21. Glad to hear you resolved most of the problems. I don't have any experience with your last problem. Maybe someone else can chime in.
  22. Guru, I am a real "Tim the tool man Taylor" kind of guy (more power arrrgh) when it comes to my computer, so the 6400 covet is on my wish list too. But when it comes to letting go of my money, I know that I could buy a laptop for half the price of the covet and Mill Level-1 would run just fine. A friend of mine has the M4400 with the FX770 card and it handles Mill lev 1 with no trouble. We do mill level 3 on the M4400 too, but many times we are wishing it had more horsepower in the CPU, Ram, and video card.
  23. I have seen that tool filter alarm when my computer did not have full privileges for the mcamx folder. If your computer is part of a network, have your administrator reset the mcamx folder to full privileges for users.
  24. Help says you only need to set thikness if you use a chain to define your jaws, but I agree with you, I don't see any differences in backplot or verify.
  25. Did they give you a different code for the hasp back in X3 to use those prototype functions? Maybe it is hanging on that code? Check with your reseller.
