Thanks for the clarification, guys I think if someone brand new posts something off topic, then it isn't really proper. However, once folks begin to "know" other people in the forum, the forum might be the best place to get a simple question answered, especially if you don't know others in the field. Yes, it might be off topic, but it can also be relevant to something many of the board members can relate to. This board has *the best* signal to noise ratio that I've ever seen, so I think the format is working quite well. If there is blatant spam, the moderators can lock it or delete it. I don't know how much of that is already happening behind the scenes, but to the ordinary message board member, it's working well.

 

As for advertising, I'm all for a manufacturer coming onto the board to chime into a discussion about his product, but not really for unsolicited, blatant, sales pitches. Just my few pennies...
