3d millinlg cutter path question

When finish milling a mold using 3d cutter path some times my cutter does not go over the edges and leaves a very small lip. It can be polished out, but what tabs/goemetry or what ever do I need to get my cutter to either cut all the wat to the edge or slightly roll over the edge? I am using a simple parallel tool path, .002 step over and am machining a top face all the way to the edge.

If that doesn't work, you can extend your surface a little

Not sure if you are using solids or surfaces? If you are using solids create surfaces from the solid on another level then you can extend the surface if needed.

 

I prefer surfaces for machining.

On the advanced settings page choose the, Only between surfaces (solid faces). Depending on the part shape and your cutting tool, it is usually better to use check surfaces than containment boundary or you might not need neither.

And also in the gap settings page there is a tangent line field where you can choose the distance you want the cutter to go over the edge.

Are you using a radiused EM? Sometimes the Z depth minimum set to 0 (or whatever, depending on where you have setup origin) doesn't allow the cutter to go beyond to clean up the edges. You can use the z depth page to adjust for your radius on EM plus a few thousandths to cleanup the edges.
