I was making a part afew weeks ago and I asked some questions on this thread Round Slots. Now I have another similar part to make and I'm using Morph between two curves and I have some questions.

One, is stock amounts left on the walls how do I set it?

Two, is I want to climb cut the walls I can do it on one wall but not the other?

Three, is this the right tool path for the job?

I'm using a 4 axis VMC, A axis rotates about the X.

If you need more info just ask the link above has more details in it too.

Thanks,

Greg

The program that I can figure out is Morph between 2 Curves how to set the amount of stock to remain on the walls. I know there are margins but with them set to zero and .005 on my check surfaces I still am getting .04 stock or so on the walls, I would like to leave .02.

I used Curve 5 Axis to finish the walls it seems like the lead in/out is not as good in this type of tool path as in some of the other. If you extend the lead in/out it doesn't extend the contour so I have to create surfaces/curves to extend to what I need.

Hey Greg, I'll take a crack at it...

For the stock to leave, I picked my wall surfs as check surfs on the collision control page, picked a strategy of "leave out gouge points" and "don't trim toolpath". I have only the check surfs box checked on the right side and the drive surfs box is unchecked, this allows me to enter a "stock to leave value". I have .250 and a tolerance of .020. The tool is staying away correctly for me...

For the "extending" issue... I don't see the option to extend a lead in/out, I do see a "extend/trim" box on the cut pattern page, which when checked puts another "branch" on the tree on the left which I can get to by hitting the "+" next to "cut pattern".

Do you have a file you can share on the FTP?

Where are the "Margins" you are referring to?

In the morph between 2 curves, Extend/Trim that's what I would like to see in the Curve 5 axis program instead of the lead in/out. The Margins is Right above the Extend/Trim tab.

I'll add more later, very busy at the moment.

BTW thanks for the help. :)

In the Cut Pattern tab in the Area section change Type to Full, start and end at exact surface edges and then it will come up.

I found that I could use check surfaces or no check surfaces but use margins with a 2d containment to limit my tool path.
