Drill Chucks

I think it depends on what type of work you do, and how the shop is tooled up. If you are doing a lot of drilling with different size holes I find it faster to use drill chucks.

All the shops I've worked in use HSS Drills, so what UParis said didn't apply.

Drill chucks on a CNC, almost never anymore.

I kept mine handy for an indicator.

Using carbide drills with steel jaws will wear out a chuck quick

Most drill chucks designed for cnc machines that I have looked at have diamond coated teeth. Albrecht are the ones that Im leaning toward. I just wonder about accuracy with them.

I have 4 drill chucks in my arsenal that I use all the time for HSS drills.

All Jacobs chucks of course, the 3/4" capacity chuck always has my edge finder in it, the other 3 are for small hss drills.

Carbide drills I always use a collet.

we all know why not to use a chuck, but drill chucks are very handy and quick. I like the type that use a allen wrench to open/close via a worm gear. Not quite as quick as a keyless chucks, but they offer a more positive grip. I'd rather see a quality cnc drill chuck than a tool in the wrong size collet.
