POSTING TO YASNAC 3000G via WinDNC

Recommended Posts

Using MastercamX9 and WinDNC. Trying to post to Yasnac 3000G. WinDNC is telling me the file transfered to the GRECO Machine Tool Interface Controller (MTIC) but the g-code does not show up in the Yasnac 3000G.

Any one know what setting i need to have on the Yasnac 3000G while loading, I tried "tape in".

Any suggestions on how to get Yasnac to see the file?

Thanks,

Chuck

Jeff,

I apologize for the late reply on this.

I downloaded the two operators manuals from this site but still can't get the get my yasnac 3000G to see the program i sent via WinDNC.

I think the older 3000G must be different than the newer Yasnac controllers you are use to when reading programs. The 3000G was initially set up to read a punched tape. My machine has a Greco MTIC and not the tape reader.

Any suggestions on where i can get some info in getting my yasnac to see the sent file?

Thanks, Chuck

Jeff,

I have been talking with Brian and Michelle a couple techs at GRECO about my problem. They seem to be quite knowledgeable with their products, WINDNC and their MTIC specifically. Problem is they nor anyone at GRECO seems to know how to configure the Yasnac 3000G to accept the file being transferred. This controller is mid 80ies vintage and the techs don't get many questions on it. I don't know if there are many in use these days.

Do you happen to have any contacts or know of anyone still using a Yasnac 3000G that i could talk to about this? Or any ideas on how i could find someone?

Best regards and thanks for your help,

Chuck

The only other option I would suggest is calling Yaskawa directly 1-800-YASKAWA (927-5292)

I've had to call them many times in the past, and sometimes it's extremely difficult to understand them as they speak broken English.

But they should work with you until the problem is solved.

Thanks Jeff that's a great idea.

I will call them Tuesday morning. Have a great holiday weekend.

Jeff,

I spoke with the Yaskawa techs and they were very helpful. Thanks for the suggestion.

To keep the posting thread up to date, Yaskawa said to simply delete the second line of the post processed file that contains the file name using the letter O followed with 4 numbers since the 3000g does not have the letter 0 on the key board and does not need the name.

Yaskawa helped me configure the 3000g but now i'm getting an "error 73, machine disk full" message when sending the file from windnc to the greco Mtic and I'm trying to resolve this. Since I'm sending the file to the Greco MTIC, it is the machine and I need to determine how to clear the disk. I'm working with the techs at Greco, but awaiting a solution.

If anyone has a solution to the error 73 within windnc please post your suggestions.

Thanks,

Chuck

According to the techs at Yaskawa they can't help me with third party hardware/software (windnc and greco MTIC) when communication with their contorller and suggested i connect directly to the yasnac 3000g controller via the 25 pin connector directly above the spot where the tape reader was installed and bypass the Greco Mtic.

I will be trying this soon and will let the forum know what how this works. If anyone has been running their Yasnac 3000g with out a Mtic, i would appreciate any info relative to getting files transfered to the yasnac.

Chuck,

It really is that simple on the old Yasnac 3000G controllers. 'Tape In' button pressed and you should immediately see the Label Skip light go out (acknowledging that the first EOB was recognized) and the Buf light come on. One note about connecting to the DB25 is that the TX, RX, RTS, CTS, and GND pins are on 14,15,16,17,18 and not in that order (I have attached the pinout diagram from a 3000G manual) - it is not like a 'standard' machine control. I have only seen this method of feeding the YAS3000G work twice in the last twenty years of connecting equipment. I'm not too familiar with the Greco MTIC but I would imagine there is some visual indication on the unit when 'tape in' is pressed a drive right light should light up. The best way to troubleshoot your setup is to reconnect the Sanyo Denki tape reader (it is just a 40 pin dual row connector) and get a tape to read into the machine first.

Hope this helps,

I used to program a 3000G ( I think it was a G) for a friend. We had an interface for loading programs into the machine but it wasn't a Greco. When we shot the program from the computer it loaded into the interface and stayed there. There was another process we had to do to get the program from the interface into memory on the machine. Unless we dumped the interface memory we couldn't load another program into it from the computer. If we didn't dump the interface and screwed up the program in the machine making edits or something we could re-load it from the interface without use of the computer. In other words, the program stayed in the interface til we turned of the power or dumped the memory. I'll try to remember the process and post again later.

Also, have you run the machine before? Those old lathes (I'm assuming lathe) had the X axis reversed from every other lathe I've run. Wanna talk confusing.....

John, my yasnac 3000g is on a mill not a lathe. Were you able to remember the process you used on your friends machine?

Chuck

Chuck, did you ever get this resolved? I am in the same battle now, except trying to bypass using a btr. Mine had the cable installed prior to my buying it, and at this point I need a pinout for the 40(?) pin end at the tape reader connection. I got a file from Yasnac but don't have an electrical diagram for the 40 pin connector to match up to their chart.
