CANNOT OPEN DXF/DWG FILE

I have been having nothing but problems with Mastercam over the last few weeks. The newest one is I can't open a dxf or dwg file. I already had a coworker open the same file on his computer without an issue. I also tried to use merge/pattern with no luck.

My computer is a Dell T7400 with a xeon processor, Quatro 4600 video card, 4GB ram, windows XP 32bit, dual monitors, spacepilot pro, logitech performance mouse and wireless keyboard. I have updated all my drivers as well as tried older ones. I even reinstalled Mastercam. Any ideas would be helpful.

Yes I see the file. The error I get is "Cannot open file: file name here.dxf It is from a newer Mastercam version or is not a file format recognized by Mastercam".

There is no entities in the level manager, I can't open the file at all.

I just tried to remove mastercam again and received an error "This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package. C:\WINDOWS\Installer\68c3c.msi"

Has anyone ever seen this before or know what would cause this?

have you copied a config file from a previous version into your current version..??

try closing Mastercam and move your config file out of the Config folder.

Then start mastercam.. it will build a new config file...

If that fixes the problem, your personalized config file is corrupt.

I created new files for X5

I just tried what you suggested and it still gives me an error.

"...over the last few weeks..."

Has anything significant changed on that computer?

Meanwhile, could you send me a list of all the files (with dates/times) in the Common\AcadData subfolder of your X5 MU1 install? Those are essential to the ability to read/write AutoCAD files. Maybe those files got messed up somehow...

Not that I can think of, that's what I don't understand about it.

Common\AcadData

I had two folders, AcadData with all the .dll files and AcadData(2) with the .tx and .txv files. I put them into one file and now I can open .DXF files.

What would split the folders up like that?

For working out troubles with dwg data you can use recover dwg. It is able to view the results of restoring. The utility is compatible with all supported Windows OS. The tool is easy to use interface for any experienced users.

I don't know...that's a new one for me to see. Has IT been on your computer lately? Are you saying it was still like that after the re-install of Mastercam?

Pete,

My department really is our own IT department here. Yes it was after I re-installed mastercam that that happened to me. I think we are going to re-install windows or up grade to 7. There is so many problems with this computer now that I think a fresh install would help.
