Good morning guys,

I have a job coming and it needs 2 x 1/2-13 x 1.0 dp, 4 x 3/8-16 x .75 dp thread.

I have only ONE chance to get it right.

My first choice is thread mill it, so i am going to need alot of help about tool and cutting parameter.

What is the best tool for 304 SST?

What is the size hole, cutting speed and feed?

How many rough pass and finish pass should i take.....?

Thanks in advance.

When I need precision threads, I use Micro 100 threadmills such as TM-290-16 (for your 3/8 hole) and drill with Guhring carbide drills (preferably coolant fed). I use the standard tap drill size for 75% threads and write a simple helix program with cutter comp. I add .01 dia. or so comp to the tool and run. Keep checking with go/nogo thread gage and decrease the amount of comp NO MORE than the difference between go/nogo pitch diameter and run again. It's definately not the fastest way to do it, but when your part costs as much as the machine, you don't want to take any chances. With the Micro 100 tools, I use the recommended SFPM for the material I am cutting, and about .0005 per tooth feed.

Do you use their other cutters besides the thread mills? Ive been looking at some of their tooling and I like their pricing.

I use their threadmills and their ZrN coated endmills for aluminum, they have been performing just as good as OSG Blizzards that I used to use exclusively, and at 1/2 the cost.
