Surface Rough Contour

I'm roughing a large corner radii and I cant get the tool to start off of the part. Approximate start point does nothing. I can't figure out what condition I need to use the Entry?exit Arc/Line dialogue.

do you have the "allow arc/line outside boundry" switch turned on?

Switch your transition type... it doesn't work with follow surface edit: or ramp

Thanks guys, got it turned on, but it didn't do what I thought it would. It still starts on the part like in the picture

If I remember correctly... been a long time... something like if it can calculate the toolpath inside the containment boundary it won't do it as one would prefer, but if the containment boundary actually constrains the toolpath then it will. Might try a tighter boundary or extend teh surfaces to overlap your existing one.

 

Edit: Nevermind lol Just tried it.

 

You do have to have that box gcode mentioned on though if any of it goes outside the containmnet boundary.

I'm not using any containment, but no matter the size of containment I tried, nothing changed. Surface Rough Contour produces the most simple toolpath, but that dang plunge move isnt gonna work.

Try using the helix option. Set the Z clearance to something more than your step-down.
