CUTTER COMP

Recommended Posts

Do people in the manufacturing industry, primarily machinists, still use use full radius or control option of tool compensation even though we're using

MasterCam? I thought the whole reason to using CAM was to be able to program tool center line...

Am I wrong in this assumption?

thanks

just another question from just another machinist.

Most people use "wear" comp though some guys still use "control" comp.

Every shop I've ever worked in insisted on "wear" and would not allow "control" comp

Control comp is much more prone to mistakes, by both the operator and the machine

do a search of the fourm on this subject.. it is debated endlessly and you can easily pull up

a half dozen threads

Wear comp is your best choice.

Enter the tool diameter on the tool page in Mastercam.

In the control you would enter 0 and make small adjustments as needed for fine tuning.

If you use control comp, it gets a little hard.

Some machines will require the tool diameter, some will need the tool radius.

You'll have to experiment to see which is correct.
