Dynamic mill 17-4 stainless

Hi everyone,

 

Haven't really done much dynamic milling, few jobs coming that it would be ideal on. I'm just after a starting point really for Speed and feeds. I'm usings a 12mm endmill doc 16mm. I have around 12000 rpm. Now I ran this last time with a feed of 2200 mm/min and spindle at 1900 rpm and 10% step over. now tbh these were a bit of a guess, and after seeing a few post regarding chip thining I want to get my head around it a bit more technically.

Looking at the data base, my spindle speed seems a bit on the low side, I've just done a search but can't seem to find it, but any got the formal for chip thining I can use in excel?

Ran this today with chip thining, ran with feed of 2400 and spindle at 3200. Cut like a dream

I use Guhring and their chart suggests 3600RPM and about 1450mm/min. If you are already running faster then, either you are on the right track or your endmills are going to wear faster. Sounds good that you are able to push this further, what tool are you using.

well I'll beable to see how good the tool life is as iv got about 120 parts todo. As for tool I'm using a MA ford 12mm varimill
