Stock Model Compare is useless for...

Just a warning fellow users, just as the STL compare in verify is useless when you are using a large to medium size part in aircraft coordinate a ways from system origin the compare to model function is so far off it is also useless. I compared it to results from vericut, not even close when doing 5-axis work. Sad too, I had high hopes for this function but it will be useless for most of our parts.

You do need to be aware of your active WCS when saving the STL. It can go to an unexpected position if you're not in the right position. Toolpaths are relative to WCS.

 

Myself, when I use this function, I go to my OP01 WCS. Save the STL. Then go to Verify, get the STL to compare to then I'm good.

Yeah, unfortunately I figured that one out too. I was really hoping it would work too as it is very useful when doing 5 axis and larger type parts.

Make sure all your planes/wcs is set to system top when you save the original stl. I and my 25 students never have problems that way.

I am aware of what Chris and James are talking about, but that is not what I am talking about. My model and STL are on top of each other it is just that the accuracy is not there.

I have be toying with creating stl's when programming.

 

Besides the accuracy issue, if your path has a gouge in it and the stl is created from that, won't

that mess up the final out put?

Here is a picture of what I am talking about. The yellow part is the design sticking out of the top of my stock model in green and purple. Vericut does not show this at all.
