PRINT TO FILE WITH XP

Yes I did a search and came up empty. I am trying to use the print to file function in conjunction with hardcopy. For some reason the little check box has vanished. Anybody seen it? Using widows xp pro.

Jeremiah,

You will have to create a new printer in XP.

"Start"-"Printers and Fax" and create a new printer and "File" is in the list.

Then you can select "File" in your Prefs when you are doing a hardcopy.

Why would you want to print to a file? Can you view it like a jpeg? Or just print it to paper later?

I use the adobe pdf driver for printing to. I wonder how life existed before I had it. Everything we send to customers (quotes, order acknowledgements, drawings, etc...) goes over email as a pdf....you can even digitally sign the documents...might be something worth looking into....

We have all of our documentation stored electronically, tool list's, set up sheets, prints, etc. This cuts an employee outta the picture, lots of file cabinets too. Along with what KCollins said about sending a pdf to a customer, or just to another department.

 

Thanks Steve, got it to work. For some reason I couldn't switch from network to local printer drivers. Admin privledges are sure helpfull.

OK I understand the PDF and storing everything electronicly. but I tried to print to file, I get a file now what do you do with it. How do you view or print it. I tried a few things and got nothing.
