C-axis post

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I have a project that requires c-axis programming and the current post that I have will only output the code below. Can anyone offer some advice?

How to find the .pst file to edit, how to check the current Machine control file and/or set up a new one or does anyone have a post for this machine to share. I was told that the .pst I'm trying previously output good/full machine code. Now it does not.

I have a project that requires c-axis programming and the current post that I have will only output the code below.

Are you programing for a lathe?

Are you programing on the face or indexing around the dia?

What post are you using now?

How to find the .pst file to edit, how to check the current Machine control file and/or set up a new one or does anyone have a post for this machine to share.

Assuming you're using McamX6 the post file is located in the shared Mcamx6/lathe/posts folder in the shared documents location.

To check the machine, control def & post you have associated with your part file, open the machine group properties in the operations manager, select "files". Under the heading "machine toolpath copy" you will see the machine, control def & post you have associated. To change the current file select the icon "replace", this will open the cnc_machines folder and you can select a different machine def.

If you are programing for a C axis lathe the Generic Fanuc 4axis lathe post or the MplMaster (happens to be a free download here) is a good start.

A word of caution about asking for posts: Don't ask for posts. :coffee:

If you need something more specific for your machine you can contact your reseller and they could either help you with edits or get you a quote for a custom post.

Oh,... and welcome to the forum. B)

I am sorry!

This is new to me and I am quite embarrassed. Thank you for setting me straight.

I am using X5 currently.

Yes I am programming for a lathe.

I am programming a outer profile and several pockets around the

face of the part with drilled holes at the bottom of them.

The post I am using was apparently set up by one of the programmers prior to me. Although I did try

one called Lathe-c axis slant bed lathe and I got code but had to manipulate it for the machine I am

using, (reformat and code changes).

Thanks for the help and the kind welcome.

Sincerely,

rchipper

The McamX5 install uses the same folder format that McamX6 uses. The posts a re located in the shared directory.

If the post that comes with the Mcam install is not gettin' done then you could,...

1 - Get into the post and do the editing, (if you're new to Mcam you've got enough to think about without taking on post editing)

2 - contact your reseller about having a custom post written (some resellers will edit the post for you if they are minor edits, major format changes typically require a quoted post)

3 - use the post you have and keep hand editing (that would be my least favorite thing to do)

The post I am using was apparently set up by one of the programmers prior to me.

Sometimes cleaning up someone else's post edits is an exercise in WT WT were they thinkin'?

K2csq7,

We are slowly making progress with this. I am not in a position nor am I asking to contract this out.

Thank you very much,

rchipper

He was not asking to take over the part, just asking for samples of current post output and desired post output. That way ppl on the forum can point you to the correct post edits.

OK so I am not the sharpest when it comes to these things. I admit it. Is your offer still on the table? I realy could use the help. Here are two program files, one is the code as it comes out and the other is the code that works for us. I noted this at the top of the pages. Is there anything else?

When doing post work, it REALLY helps to have a simple file that allows you to test all the scenarios you plan on encountering. On turning I usually do a simple OD Rough Canned Cycle (think shape like this "L" (yeah, that simple), Face Drill 2 positions (0 and 90), Cross Drill opposite 2 positions (180 and 270), Polar Interp a square on the end (1 pass with a lead in and lead out), a finish OD cycle (not canned usually as I like more control over intry and exit than is offered in canned), I add a simple groove and I toggle coolant on and off, alternating operations, drill cycle, an ID rough, and an ID finish. It's just way too hard to weed through a ton unnecessary codef. That should fit on 2 pages making it quite simple to see and edit.

ONce you do that, then post it out. Save a file as is. Then edit the file and save as *edited.NC. Attach NC files and the Mastercam file to a reply then we can go from there.

Helping fellow programmers is what a lot of us like to do. In my case, MANY people have been very generous to me with their knowledge and this is how I repay that generosity, I in turn pass it along and help others. That's how we roll at eMastercam. Users helping users.

I can totally agree with CNC Apps Guy 1. He, and a lot of others here, have helped me out immensely, and continue to do so. I'm down here in New Zealand, so it helps to have these contacts all over the world :)

I also agree about the "Test File" to use when tweaking posts. I have a few files I have used, that have passed from Version 9 right through to X6, when I can test posts :)

Glad you got it!

I don't see any attachments or posted code on your last post....

Maybe it's me, I did get really drunk for fathers day yesterday, my eyes aren't really working 100%.sick.gif

also the code for the c axis is extremely large?????

Glad you got it!

I don't see any attachments or posted code on your last post....

Maybe it's me, I did get really drunk for fathers day yesterday, my eyes aren't really working 100%.sick.gif

The tool header you desire is achievable, but you will need to modify the information put into a buffer. And create variables to hold the information that you have collected when retrieved. Then you need to write the code to format the information that you now have.

It would take longer to try to explain it, than it would take to do it. Probably about 4 hours to code and debug.

The above quoted code looks like a C-Axis 'wind up' error in the post. While engaged in a cut, X-Axis is moving .077 and C-Axis is 365 degrees. A little more complicated to deal with, since sometimes that is what is intended.

You have your work cut out for you. I would suggest maybe having a professional fix the post for you, or buy one from your reseller. Hope that helps you understand what is involved, and Good Luck!
