PH horn broach

I'm looking for an example in X6 to drive a PH Horn single point broach.

The feature is an internal keyway.

The insert is 5/16" wide, holder is .684 dia. holder# is SHU117.0910.2.10

insert# SU117.3125.08.10 TA45. My first thought is to run this like a boring bar

and lock the C-axis. I'm sure I can force the output, but I would like to

know if there is a more suitable way I can generate the apropriate code,short of

fat fingering.

Thats how i have done it, lock the c axis and use a rough boring cycle but using per minute feed. Remember when broaching your stepover is your chip load and the feedrate is your surface footage.

Finish toolpath and use a modified post that uses a mi or mr call to not output spindle speed should be god to go. That is the way I have done it for years in different shops.

Depending on your machine if you have macro programming ability you could write a cycle. I have done this in the past with the cycle to broach a 5" lenght on a tapered slot.

To me this would be bringing me back to my old high school days when we actually had a shaper. The old school guy taught me the formula "CS*7/length of stroke" = your feedrate....or how fast the shaper moves into the material. Just in case that did not come out right.....that would be SFPM times 7 divided by your length of cut. That being said that was 1987 & I am sure PH horn has more up-to-date data. One would think "point" toolpath might come in very handy for what you are trying to do.
