3/8-16 TAPERLOCK CALL OUT

Hi

I have a print from a customer that calls out fora 3/8-16 taperlock to depth shown. IS this a special tap. I did a search and all I have found are things on taperlock gages.

After searching around on the net, like you have, I can only think of 4 things as to what this could mean:

 

1: This was actually an internal print and is meant to tell the QA what thread gauge type to use for the testing

 

2: This is the customers way of telling you what type of thread gauge they want you to use

 

3: This print was done by a draftsperson who didn't understand that "taperlock" is a type of thread gauge

 

4: Neither one of us (or apparently Google) has ever heard of a "taperlock" thread

 

My best advice would be to call the customer and simply ask them what they mean by that call out

Is there a round pocket surrounding the tapped hole? If you're machining a moldbase, it may be a pocket for a taper lock component (similar function as a parting line lock). Best to call the customer.

After looking thru about ten prints to this one part I found a side view of the hole and it has 12.5 deg taper hole down to the thread start . Just they way they had it called out was confusing to you see the side view of the hole. Have a good weekend
