Twin Turret Lathe

Hi,

We are using Mastercam for Milling and Turning, but so far we only have single Turret Lathes. We are now in progress to buy an Twin Turret machine and I wonder how Mastercam handles this type of machine?

Is it possible to control and program both turrets or do you need to program them separately?

Can I chose if I want to use upper/lower turret on sub/main-spindel?

Is it possible to simultate the entire workflow with docking and synchronizations?

You can program both turrets together, and you use an axis combination to select which turret you are using on which spindle. Can you simulate the entire workflow with docking and sync's? Not so much right now, but soon, verry soon. ;) Download a copy of mplmaster if you don't already have it, and it has upper/lower turret main and sub-spindle, just to give you an idea. What type of machine?

Btw, how soon is very soon??

Mori Seiki machines comes with a license of Esprit ;)

I've been told several times about "next release" and some of those items are still not completed!

I was told that the Esprit license with a new Mori is a timed deal. It's only free for one or two years and then you have to start paying maintenance to DP Tech.

It is in beta now, so I am limited on what I can say here, and don't quote me on this, but I think it is slated for Q1 of next year.

Okay... Hopefully Mastercam will have next version released before we have a new machine. My boss claims that we must have the machine producing real parts within two weeks.... And I don't want to program this type of machine manualy!

Can you program the upper turret say for rough turning and the lower turret for drilling at the same time? If so how is this done? I have a old 1992 Miyano BNC-34T Twin Turret machine O-T control that I am starting to develop a post with Mplmaster....

Thanks

I do it now with Mazak's. It has been years since I touched a Miyano. How does it handle the program for the upper and lower turret and sync commands? For instance Mazak's have all the upper turret stuff at the top and lower turret stuff at the bottom of the program and uses sync codes to determine what happens in what order.

I am not sure yet I will get some correct code for this next week... Below is what sample code they gave me for a simple job but I don't see any simultaneous turret stuff. But I am not sure what to look for... So in Mastercam it is just simple select either the upper or lower turret for each operation and correctly define in tool data but how does it know to run at same time? Or is this a post thing?

Thanks
