radial slot with tru 4th axis or 5th toolpath

I have part with a radial slot. I plan is to fixture to 5th axis rotary the rotate part to 35 deg angle plunge endmill on centerline of slot then use 5th axis rotary to rotate the part around the endmill. all i have is 2d geo . can i use the center line of the slot to drive this tool path or will i have to creat a solid ?

ok Thanks . Ive been trying to reproduce that slot by revolving but its not as straight foward as I thought . I dont have mastercam soilds . I have to use inventor

you can swarf mill it useing upper and lower rails that are synced. i would do it for you but im running x6 so you wont be able to open it

when u say upper and lower rails are u talking about the center line of the slot at the top of the part and bottom of part(two different depths) ?

Yes it looks good unless I'm missing something. Thanks . The corners where the fillets are in my solid didnt come out as good as yours. Did you just revolve the profile and fillet the corners or is the some additional steps u did ?

I think i revolved my profile around the center axis of part and it looks like from your geo that you did to around the center line of the slot the have drawn on the print. Is this correct.

_{Upper and lower rails are the profile of the feature not the center. If you use the swarf toolpath use chains instead of surface and you will have to offset your bottom rail to the proper depth of your part.}

Thanks I have been playing around with the swarf toopath and thats what i ended up doing like u said and the toothpath looks good. This will be my first full 5th axis job I've programmed and the same for the company. I 've used 5th axis strictly for indexing up until this job. This could be done by rotating the pallet then just moving the C axis around the cutter. what would be the better toolpath ?

i think you will ge better results with the swarf because you can use a smaller tool and sweep the rads instead of running on center and in a sense running into the rads and leaveing chatter and tapper in the rads

I did solids swept for the slots then the corner rad. you have all the history in the solids manager sense I did it in Mastercam.
